Moms are always busy! We are constantly running errands, taking our kids places, cleaning the house, caring for the kids, etc…. But more often than not, we neglect ourselves in the process. We really don’t mean to, it’s just a lot easier to be intentional for others rather than ourselves.
But the truth is, Mama…
if you don’t take time for yourself you will get burnt out.
By allowing yourself a chance to refill and feel good, you will, in turn, be more capable of helping your family feel that way too. This doesn’t have to complicated, though. You are busy after all! There are so many simple, easy ways to take care of yourself as a busy mom!
Create Intentional Spaces in your home
An “Intentional Space” is an area of your house that makes you feel good. Maybe it is as simple as decorating your couch side table or place candles around. Or it may mean redesigning your workspace so that it makes you feel more inspired to work. Whatever it means for you, take the time to create intentional spaces within your home.
Start by looking at where you spend the most time throughout the day. For me, that is our living room. My living also doubles as my workspace. I took a few hours (over the course of a week or so) and spent a small amount of money to create a desk space that made me feel inspired to work. Not only was it great for my productivity, but I also just feel positive being in the same room as it. Even if I am not at my desk, that space reminds me that I am important too.
Create an inspirational swipe file or pinterest board
I hadn’t heard of a swipe file until recently. I first saw it mentioned in one of the many blog posts about productivity I have been reading (I wish I could remember which one!). But a swipe file is super simple. What you do is take screenshots and images on your phone of pictures and things that inspire you. I find a lot of my images on Instagram or from the world around me. Then you save them all in a folder together. You can also do with with a board on Pinterest.
When you are feeling discouraged or lacking motivation you simple swipe through all your images. Hence the name, “Swipe File”. This is such a simple way to remind you of the things that inspire you and help you feel motivated all over again!
Unfollow people on social media
We all know those people on social media who are always posting negative things. They are either blowing up your newsfeed with political posts or sharing things filled with “alternative facts”. Maybe they are simply always being negative or they just feel toxic within your life. Whatever the reason, they always add stress to your life rather than positivity.
Take a few minutes and unfollow people that don’t help move your life forward. You can even follow people who post positive things to replace the negativity. An example of this would be Instagram. If you follow a bunch of celebrities and friends who only post selfies, consider following people who inspire you to be a better version of yourself, instead. I have been really intentional to build an Instagram feed that promotes productivity and positivity in my life. Now, when I go on Instagram I know that I will only see things that will help me grow as an individual rather than stress me out.
Join Facebook Groups of Likeminded People
I had not discovered the beauty of Facebook groups until just a couple months ago. I always thought they were only for people who just wanted to sell me their lipsticks and clothes. But when I started to get into blogging for business, I realized that there are literally facebook groups for everything! I started by searching for “Unschooling”, “Mom Bloggers”, and “Vegans”. It took a little trial and error to find groups that worked for me, but it has been a great way to no longer feel alone.
I used to spend so much time wishing I knew people who lived life similarly, but now I feel like I have places where I can ask questions and connect with new people. It has become such a positive thing for me! A little note for this is to pay attention to the group rules to get an idea of what each group is about. I joined a few crazy groups at first and sometimes I joined a group with a lot of promise but it wasn’t very active. So try several and when you find some that fit, save them.
