Oh my! I cannot believe that April is already here! While March didn’t necessarily fly by, I am still in awe of the fact that it is over already. I made huge goals for the month of March this year. As a matter of fact, I made huge goals for the entire year! Did I meet every single goal that I had set for March? Nope! And I am totally okay with it. That may sound counter-intuitive. But just because I didn’t meet my first month’s goals doesn’t mean anything about my ability to accomplish a TON! This isn’t a sprint.
But for the sake of reflection, let’s look a little bit at March.
My Key Goals from March
I am only going to mention a few of them. If you want to see how I did on all of my goals you can read those here.
3000 Page Views | 808 views (+264 since March 1)
Write 35 posts | I wrote 10-ish and published 4. Though I have about 42 more outlined in WordPress drafts, ready to write.
500 Instagram Followers | 446 (+70 since March 1). This is actually a lot closer than I expected.
Income $0 | $0! WOOO I met a goal 🙂
You may be thinking… Erica, you didn’t meet any goals this month. What stopped you? I am so glad you asked! *wink*
This month was my first month after decided to actually blog as a full-time business. I have tossed this idea around for years, but this time was different. I am finally learning how to beat the overwhelm and embrace who I truly am and what I truly want in my life. I am realizing that the only thing standing in my way was myself.
So, when I made my goals for this month, they were a complete shot in the dark. I didn’t know what I could do and had no frame of reference to create realistic goals. However, I also believe in aiming high. Sometimes you may have an idea of what you are wanting out of something and the only way to get there is to actually push through and go for it. You have to start somewhere.
At the beginning of March, I still hadn’t really found the right focus for my blog and business. The reality is I am all over the place. That is who I am. So, I have to allow myself time (and talking things into the ground) to finally embrace an authentic focus for myself.
What I did accomplish in March!
Looking back, almost every goal I made was number focused. I wanted *so many* followers, views, or posts written. What I didn’t focus on was quality and true engagement. So let’s look at the amazing things I did accomplish this past month!
I published 4 posts | This may not seem like a lot in comparison to my goal of 35 posts, but you guys! In one month I published 4 blog posts. In the past, there was typically a few months between each post. So I would consider this a huge win!
I started taking social media more seriously | There is a direct correlation between how often you post and how many people see your social media. Who would have thought!? I found this especially true with my Instagram. When I posted more frequently I got more followers. In the month of February, I got 10 new followers. In March, I got 70! Big change.
I created a detailed promo schedule for my Facebook groups | This took WAY longer than I anticipated. But I created an organized excel sheet of the entire schedule for over 60 business related Facebook groups. This included promo days, social media days, wins, etc…. I thought this would only take a few hours to complete, but I am guessing I put nearly 20 hours into this project! However, it is already saving me tons of time!
I made my first content upgrade | I needed something to encourage email conversion, so I took a blog post that I had already written and instead turned most of the information into a PDF file. Super easy and has already gotten me several more emails! This process still needs a lot of work, but it is a great place to start.
I gained direction and focus | As I started to write more and continued to evaluate what I want and why I want it, I began to find more direction and focus in what I am doing. I believe this will be an ever-changing process, but I am really excited about how things are transitioning. I spent a lot of time understanding my audience, my “why”, and how to be intentional in this process.
What I learned for April
Last month, it was all about the numbers. While these are important and I will still have number related goals this month, it isn’t everything. I have to also really focus on quality. I have to create a quality experience for, not only, my audience, but also myself. I also have to allow time for some of the more technical stuff, like setting up better email marketing or updating my social media banners.
When you are beginning something it is so easy to get caught up in what everyone is saying is “right” that it is so easy to miss the most important pieces of this journey. I have to be careful how much I listen to other people’s processes. I am not saying learning from others isn’t important. But you can research too much. It can also lead to becoming overwhelmed when you are constantly being reminded what you should do.
April 2017 Blogging Goals
Let’s get into it, then…. shall we?
Increase my Page Views
This may seem vague, but that is intentional. At this point, I am content with simply increasing the number of people who are seeing my blog. However, I am going to begin a search for my target audience in an attempt to make those views count more intentionally!
I will be using Social media, Facebook groups, emails, and intentional commenting as the main sources of page views in April. Writing more posts will help with this as well, which brings me to the next goal…
Publish 2-3 Quality Posts per Week
If I can publish more that would be great, but I will aim for 2-3. In order to streamline this process, I will be creating images for my posts once a week. This will allow me to focus on writing throughout the week.
Increase my Social Media Followings by 20% on each Network
This one may be a little bit hard, but I am up for the challenge. This number will range from 20 followers to nearly 200 depending on the social media network. So I will make a plan for each social media network to gain the needed followers.
I have chosen to use a percentage this month so that it can be dependent on the network and where they are already at. Hopefully, it also makes this a bit more tangible. I will also be utilizing automation this month through Board Booster, Tailwind, and Hootsuite.
Create a 3-part Free Video Series
I want to make something more substantial that my readers can enjoy. I have a desire to help other moms find their way to a free life, working for themselves. I will schedule a day to film everything I need to for the videos and plan them out ahead of time. This is such an early idea, so I still have a lot of technical aspects to figure out as well.
Do Significant Research on Questions my Audience is Commonly Asking
I will be starting an excel sheet where I can keep track of different subjects and questions people in my market are asking online. This will help me frame not only my free video series but also future courses/products to what my audience really wants to know.
Focus on Technical Aspects of my Website
I will take time once or twice a week to focus solely on the technical aspects of my website, email marketing, and more. I get so focused on learning and creating content that I don’t take the time to update my website and correct any issues there. Without a working website, it won’t matter how many people I get to come there.
Continue to Refine my Direction
This is something that is a big part of my life in general, but I want to continue to look at what I am doing and refine it to make something real and authentic to who I am that will also allow me to help people and make a living online.
Make Some Money
I say “some” because this month I am not super picky about how much. But I would like to see some kind of take home pay by the end of the month that came directly from my blog/business. In order to meet my monetary goals this year, I have to start somewhere.
Break my Goals down by Week
Near the end of the month, I realized that I never took my monthly goals and made them actionable within the week. Instead, I just said, “These are my goals” and left it at that. This month I will break them down by each week so that I have an idea of what needs to be done that week to move each goal forward.
Whelp, that’s it. Those are my goals for April. I feel like this is such a positive experience for me, sharing these online. Not only does it give me a bit more motivation to actually meet them, but it also allows me to set my intentions for the month publically. I want to show the reality behind this process. I want to be real with you guys. This isn’t something that happens quickly but I truly believe it is possible for anyone!
What are some of your biggest goals for the month of April?
Peace and Love,
