Hi, I’m Erica
I’m a multi-medium artist and writer living in an old Victorian house in Illinois with my husband, our kid, and two dramatic black cats, Prince and Bowie. I spend most of my time making art, reading obsessively, playing video games, and slowly turning our yard into a cottage garden. I also bake a mean sourdough loaf.
If you were around back when I ran The Sleepy Pine, that was me. Now, I am creating art under my own name
For a long time, I followed the common advice to have a niche, to create something specific so people know what to expect from you. But, as a multi-passionate artist, all that did was cause burnout and impact my ability to follow my inspiration because I was constantly limiting myself to fit within that niche. I like to say that I painted myself into a corner.
Now, I am allowing myself the space to create the things I want to. I work in multiple mediums like watercolor, acrylic, ceramics, digital, videography, writing, and more. I am also allowing myself to be the complex creature I am, full of contradictions—like loving whimsy and magic, but also writing dark, messed up stories.
My work explores a range of themes, subjects, and mediums, to bring my ideas to life and tell the stories that fill my soul.
